Get AwayCam
for macOS.
A native menu-bar app and virtual camera for macOS 13 and later. Universal — Apple Silicon and Intel.
What works today, and the one thing that needs Apple.
AwayCam is fully runnable on any Mac. The only gated step is activating the camera extension — macOS requires it to be signed by a paid Apple Developer account. That’s Apple’s rule, not a paywall.
- ✓Record loops from your webcam
- ✓Preview every mode — Live, Away, Standby
- ✓The multi-loop gallery, trim, rename
- ✓All Pro features in the app
- ✓The full test suite
- ⌘Activating the system camera extension
- ⌘Selecting “AwayCam Camera” in Zoom / Meet / Teams
Once a signed, notarized build ships, this is handled for you — no developer account required to just use AwayCam.
Three commands.
- 1
Clone & build
make runinstalls XcodeGen if needed, generates the project, and launches the app — locally signed, no team required. - 2
Record your loop
A guided 3–15s capture. Trim it, name it, set it active. Everything stays on your Mac.
- 3
Go Away
Pick AwayCam in your meeting app, then switch Live → Away from the menu bar or a hotkey. (Extension activation needs the paid signing step above.)
